Discover the idyllic mountain farm landscape along Norwegian Scenic Route Rondane by taking this short and easy hike to Sjølisætra. Situated just below the tree line, you’ll have splendid views of the peaks of Rondane and Atnasjøen Lake.
Sjølisætra is available for booking for hikers who want to stay for a few days and explore the area.
Park your car at Atnasjø Café, located along Road 27 (Norwegian Scenic Route Rondane).
From Atnasjøen Café, cross to the opposite side of Road 27. Turn left on to the gravel road that runs alongside the main road and follow it as it climbs the hillside.
After about 1.4 kilometers the road forks. Continue to the right and then turn right again at the next fork. Explore the trails for the best views.
You can either return along the same road, or follow the trail across the hillside to the southeast. Eventually you’ll meet another trail which will take you back down to the café.

Where to stay
Enjoy the simple life by staying at Sjølisætra, which accommodates up to 4 people. The cabin has everything you need, except bedsheets. There’s no water or electricity (except for a solar panel), so be prepared to fetch water in the nearby stream and use an outhouse toilet. Book your stay.
Offering cabin and campsite rental, Rondetunet Outdoor Activity Center is the perfect starting point for outdoor adventures, which in addition to hiking, includes fishing and canoe paddling. The main buildings include a café as well as a shop selling equipment for outdoor activities.Rondane Gjestegård is a small charming inn offering hotel and cabin accommodation, as well as cozy communal areas for relaxation. Their restaurant serves locally sourced breakfast and dinner.
