About Skjerdalen
With its vertical rock walls and rushing waterfalls, the fairy-tale-like valley of Skjerdalen is a unique experience in Rondane National Park. The trail from Bjørnhollia cabin takes you into the narrow green valley, which lies untouched and ready for you to explore. Apart from being rocky and wet, the trail is mostly well-marked and easy to follow.
Getting there
Hiking into Skjerdalen is an excellent activity if you’re staying at Bjørnhollia, but you can also make a day hike from Strømbu. Simply follow the trail to Bjørnhollia first.
Trail description
From the cabin, the trail runs in the direction of the river. Cross the bridge and continue southwards along the lake. At the end of the lake, the trail goes up a steep hill before flattening out a little. Follow the trail as it takes you along a ridge with the canyon on the right-hand side, before leading you downhill to the lush valley.
As you explore the valley, the trail might become hard to find. Once you come to an “X” marking, you’ve reached the end of the trail. Explore as much as you like before returning the same way.
Facts
- It can be wet in the valley so solid, waterproof footwear is recommended.
