Hiking from Eidsbugarden to Torshamaren grants you sweeping views without too much effort, the trail ascending gradually the entire way. At the top, you’re surrounded by the majestic Jotunheimen peaks, with the beautiful Tyin Lake before you.
The trail is easy to follow, except for the final kilometer, where it becomes a bit unclear. However, small cairns are provided, guiding you safely to the top.
Drive on road E16 (Lærdal - Fagernes), before exiting towards Tyin Lake and Eidsbugarden. Follow signs towards Eidsbugarden on the eastern side of Tyin Lake. Paid parking is available at Eidsbugarden and Fondsbu. Parking costs NOK 80 for 24 hours.
By boat from Bygdin
From the end of June through August, as well as weekends in September, M/B Bitihorn travels between Bygdin Hotel and Eidsbugarden, across Bygdin Lake. Visit the JVB boat website for schedules and prices for the boat ride. Bygdin is situated in the east end of the lake Bygdin and 50 kilometers north of Beitostølen. You can either drive to Bygdin Mountain Hotel and park your car there or take the bus from Oslo.
From Eidsbugarden hotel, follow the main road (Eidsbugardvegen) about 800 meters west towards Tyinholmen. Here you’ll see the signposted trail to Torshamaren, traveling uphill through a cabin area. The trail is a bit rocky but otherwise easy to hike, ascending gradually to the top.
By the edge of the cabin area, you’ll reach a large pointed boulder. The trail leads you passed the boulder uphill through the valley, along Sløtabekken Stream. Torshamaren is located to the left, but the trail rounds the top from the northeastern side.
Continue passed the boulder for about 700 meters, until you reach another sizeable boulder (with a circular shape this time). Here you turn to the left (southwest). From this point, it’s about 1 kilometer left to the top. The trail is unclear, so look out the small cairns showing you the way.
From the top, far-reaching views of the magnificent Jotunheimen Peaks and Tyin Lake await. Descend along the trail.
The trail runs alongside Sløtabekken Stream where you can fill up your water bottle.
