About Feigefossen

Experience the roaring Feigefossen at close range by hiking up the short, marked trail to a viewpoint close to this magnificent waterfall. With a sheer drop of 218 meters, this is the second-largest unregulated waterfall in Norway after Vettisfossen (275 meters).

Surrounded by green mountains and the pristine Luster Fjord, the hike up the steep, rocky trail is worth the effort.

Getting there

Exit Road 55 (Norwegian Scenic Route Sognefjellet) at Skjolden by taking a left onto Road 331. Drive for about 16.5 kilometers until you reach the parking lot on the right side of the road, by the fjord.

Walk for about 300 meters down the road until you reach the trailhead at Feigeelva River.

Trail description

Follow the marked trail running along Feigeelva River, on the left-hand side of Road 331 when coming from the parking lot. The trail ascends steeply and can be slippery when wet, the final bit being particularly rocky.

Enjoy the stunning views of the waterfall before descending along the same trail.

  • Free parking.

  • Stock up on food at the grocery store in Skjolden.

Where to stay

Stay at Turtagrø Hotel for a traditional mountain lodge experience. The hotel dates back to the 1880s but was recently renovated. They serve breakfast, lunch, and three-course dinners. Campsite rental is also available, which includes access to showers, toilets, and a common area. You'll find the lodge along Road 55, about 16 kilometers northeast of Skjolden. It's open between Easter and mid-September.
