Rebusløypa (“the quiz trail”) includes 10 questions children can have a go at. The trail runs through the traditional summer mountain farm area of Beitostølen (“støl” is a term for a mountain farm used in summer). Rebusløypa intersects with a mountain poetry track with poems inspired by the tranquility of the mountains, and the peaceful rhythm of farming.
The trail features forests, viewpoints, and a stream creating an excellent natural playground for children.
From Fagernes, take NOR-WAY 161 Valdresekspressen or the local route 137 and alight at Beitostølen. Walk some 450 meters southwards along Road 51 until you reach Stølstunet Shopping Center on your right. The trailhead is located on the opposite side of the road. You’ll see a sign reading Hovi, follow this onto Åsvegen Road.
From Fagernes, follow the signs to Road 51 towards Vågå/Beitostølen. Drive on Road 51 for about 40 kilometers until you reach Beitostølen. Find parking in the center of Beitostølen. Beitostølvegen Parking is an alternative which is close to the trailhead at Åsvegen Road, opposite of Stølstunet Shopping Center.
If you fetch a map at the tourist information office, the trailhead at Åsvegen Road is indicated as checkpoint 12. Continue on Åsvegen until you reach checkpoint no. 2. From here, there’s a trail leading into the forest. Follow the trail as it takes you in a loop running from checkpoints no. 3 through 11.
You’ll pass Skjenhaugen, an old burial ground with remnants of three graves. The trail leads you up a little hill, and between checkpoints no. 7 and 8 there’s a viewpoint where you can relax and enjoy stunning views. A couple of hundred meters ahead, there’s a stream where it’s nice for children to play.
The trail descends through the forest, along Grønåsvegen Road before returning along the same way you came, via Åsvegen Road.
Having freshly baked cakes and pastries at Stølen Bakery is a nice reward after hiking Rebusløypa.
