About Peer Gynt Cabin
The Peer Gynt cabin is situated inside Rondane National Park. During summer and other Norwegian holidays, you can buy waffles and hot/cold beverages at Peer Gynt. It is also possible to book accommodation by the cabin in small huts.
The trail from Kampen to Peer Gynt follows a small gravel road and is easy to follow and can be done by even inexperienced hikers. The trail itself offers great views of the Rondane mountains and the surrounding area.
About 4 km north of the city Otta you will find a road on your right-hand side when going northwards with a white sign to Kvitskruiprestene and Reiret. Continue straight on this road for about 1 km and take the road on your left-hand side before the toll booth.
Follow this road all the way up to the Kampen area and find the parking lot by the road. About halfway you need to stop at a toll booth and pay 20 NOK before you drive all the way up to Kampen.
Follow the road northwards starting from the parking lot. The road is easy to follow and goes in a fairly straight line all the way to the Peer Gynt cabin. As you start closing in on your destination you will find a bridge crossing the Vesleula river before you climb lightly up to the cabin itself.
- The road up to Kampen is a paid road. It costs 20 NOK so make sure you bring some change.
- It is possible to do this hike if you have a baby stroller with large wheels
- There are no toilets at the trailhead
- Free parking
- Drinking water can be found in the nearby streams and rivers
