Hiking from historical Kongsvold Fjeldstue towards Knutshøa is a botanical dream!
Already during the 12th century there was an established a guesthouse at Kongsvold after the king demanded that travelers were to have a safe shelter to spend the night at after traveling across Dovrefjell. Kongsvold Kro is open during the summer season between 13:00 and 17:00 with free entrance to the national park exhibition in the floor below.
Kongsvold Fjeldstue is found along E6 close to Hjerkinn.
There is a roundtrip from the lodge and up toward Knutshøa. The trail goes in easy terrain, is marked, and is suitable for families with children. If you wish to go for a longer walk, Søndre Knutshø is about an hour away and can be reached by following the path that continues at Blesebekken.
Every since the middle of the 16th century botanists pilgrimaged to the Knutshø area in search of rare mountain plants. The basis for the unique plant life is the lime containing and mineral rich mountain rocks. Remember that the plants in Hjerkinn/Kongsvoll/Drivdalen and in the national park are preserved, and you should make sure not to damage them.
