About Våtmark på Øynadn
Like an oasis the Øynadn nature reserve is located at the bottom of the Smådalen valley in Vang municipality. More than 300 different plants grow here. After driving into open mountain scenery down the beautiful little valleys, you enter another world when you park your car at Øynanstølen. Here there are many secrets to discover.
The reserve is a typical river landscape with ponds, fast and quiet rivers, shallow lakes, streams, sand and gravel, marsh, swamp and mudflats. A large part of the area is medium nourishing marshes, rich willow scrub and medium to rich mountain birch forests. There is also extremely rich and poor vegetation.
The variation in habitats (a total of 15 vegetation types are registered) and good access to food provides high diversity and density of many species, both in terms of birds and plants. The nature park has both alpine plants and lowland plants. 311 plants have been registered here so far.
But the area is not only for those who want to botanize. A walk up the path along Smådøla is a beautiful trip with redshank and other wading birds to see. Or how about a canoe trip on the beauties of the "secret" small lakes. You glide through the water silently and are perhaps lucky enough to see moose in the water's edge. The day does not seem long then. This is a different trip in Vang nature. Take your time and appreciate the nature.
Getting there: Exit from E16 towards Helin just east of Vang center. At first on tollway to Helin. Follow the west side of the lake for 3 km until the road rises above Smådalsfjellet mountain and down the little valleys. Drive further south to Øynanstølen (about 25 km from E16). Park your car here.
