Kuvauen is a narrow inlet with several small sandy beaches well protected from the wind. On the east side of the inlet is an idyllic ocean hut area with mooring spots and piers that are quite unique today in Ytre Hvaler. Because it is protected as a heritage site, Kuvauen is the only fisherman and pilot harbors, which has preserved its original character. The 13 boathouses there were deemed protected heritage buildings by the Riksantikvaren in 1993.
Kuvauen is located on Vesterøy. Coming from Fredrikstad, exit from county road 108 about 1 km after crossing the bridge onto the island, first on Lonøyveien, and then on Vauerveien and follow signs for Kuvauen.
Parking: There are free parking spaces approx. 500 meters before Kuvauen.
The bus stops at Bratte Bakke in the intersection of county road108 and Lonøyveien (county road 472)
The trip starts at the parking lot of Kuvauen. Here, the marked coastal path enters an old forest and leafy tree. After about 5 minutes the forest opens and you are at the seaside. The fishermen huts are on the eastern side of the small inlet, right in front of you.
It is allowed to put up a tent here.
At Kuvauen there is a barbecue, seating area and outhouse.
