Rambergfjellet is an easy and rewarding mountain hike on Vestvågøy Island. Starting just off the E10 road, the trail is clear and easy to follow, and the peak is a perfect spot to enjoy the midnight sun. There are views over the higher mountains and the village of Eggum in the west, and Haveren mountain in the east.
Camping in a tent or spending the night under the clear night sky is also possible, and no one will likely bother you, except maybe a moose or two. During the summer months the midnight sun creeps around from Unstad and Eggum, kissing the sea. The view from Rambergfjellet gives you front row seats. In the early morning hours the sun peaks around from Haveren in the east.
The trailhead is just off the E10 Road, between Leknes and Gimsøya. It’s a 21-kilometer drive from Leknes and 17 kilometers from Gimsøya.
Look for a small dirt road on the western side of the road. Turn onto the road and park.
The trail starts from the end of the dirt road and is easy to follow.
The trail heads uphill and after around 300 hundred meters the terrain flattens out a little. Continue to the right when the trail forks and keep ascending.
The trail splits again briefly. The trail to the left is more exposed, and runs a bit closer to the edge before rejoining the other trail.
Continue along the well-trodden path to the top.
Where to stay
If you would like to spend the night under the stars or in a tent there are plenty of nice spots along the trail, and it’s not crowded. Bring water.
