Svarthaugen is a peak popular among both walkers and bikers. The terrain is easy with a nice path and is fun for the whole family. Despite the fact that Svarthaugen barely reaches 1000 metres elevation, it can still provide a striking view. Here you’ll see a vast amount of Oppdal; all of central and far east toward Fagerhaug. In the west you’ll see Storhornet and the mountains in Trollheimen. If you turn south you’ll see Drivdalen and Vinstradalen. Svarthaugen is a good hiking destination any time of the year.
This nearby peak is also great for an evening trip but make sure you get back before it’s too dark.
During winter the ski slopes go all the way up to the top, as long as the snow conditions allow it. From the beginning of the parking lot the trail goes up moderate terrain. Here you’ll also find great hills for sledding, for those who don’t wish to go all the way to the top. Cross-country trails continue west, and head down to Bjerkeløkkja.
