About Kråkvasstinden
A ski trip to Kråkvasstind is a classic in Oppdal, which should be done at least once during the winter season. This mountain is the tallest peak along the eastern part of the mountain massif. From the top, you’ll have panoramic views over Dovrefjell, Sunndalsfjella, and Trollheimen mountain ranges.
Normally you can put your skis on and start directly from the parking lot. Make sure you’re aware of rocks that can pop up in some places from under the snow. The route pretty much follows the same track in summer as during winter.
Getting there
From Oppdal, head northwest on Road 70. At the roundabout take the second exit and continue on Road 70. After about 20 km, turn right onto Storlidalsveien road. There are parking lots on the left side of Storlidalsveien road, just before the bridge across Ångardsvatnet Lake.
Trail description
From the parking lot, follow the path to Sandøysætra. From there head south and go up in the southwest direction until going beyond the treeline. Initially, there will be a lot of elevation to gain, but once you reach the forest the terrain flattens. At that point, you’ll turn south again towards the east side of Kråkvasstinden. You’ll continue gaining elevation on the slope towards Gråfjellet and Sandåfjellet. Take a nice break here before going the last stretch towards the top. Turn southwest and head onto Kråkvasstindens east side. Continue towards the wide flat peak, and enjoy the amazing view.
