About Andenes Lighthouse
The bright-red Andenes Lighthouse is an iconic landmark on Andøya Island. A trip to the top of the 148 stairs grants a view over Andenes and Bleik to the southwest, Senja to the east, and the vast Norwegian sea to the west and the north.
The lighthouse took two years to build and was finished in 1859. Similar lighthouses were built in stone, but the Danish expert responsible for the Andenes project elected to build the tower in cast iron and insulate it with bricks.
Guided tours are available through Whalesafari Andenes who, as the name suggests, also offer whale safaris.
Getting there
Andenes Lighthouse is located in the village of Andenes, at the northern end of Andøya Island and Norwegian Scenic Route Andøya.
There is a free parking lot by the lighthouse and Andøya Museum.
