Take the trip to the small farm Bagnsbergatn, which is a national war memorial under the Bagn Bygdesamling. Dramatic events sprang on this farm in April 1940. Germans who had taken the farm and captured 25 civilians were attacked and fought by Norwegian soldiers, while the civilians were locked in the houses. Only one of the civilians was killed. His Majesty King Olav V entered the farm as a national war memorial in 1986.
Follow the E16 from Fagernes to Bagn for approx. 29 km. Just before reaching Bagn, in a sharp bend, turn left (look for the road sign: recommended speed limit 40 km/h). There is a small war memorial sign by the exit. If you arrive from the South, drive past Bagn, and after the first right bend, exit to the right. Parking just after the exit from the main road. Follow the gravel road and find the marked trail that starts on the right hand side. It passes through Gråbeinhølet, a battlefield from 1940 during the Second World War. The farm, Bergatn, is a National War Memorial site. Information boards along the route, tell the story of the battle.
