About Aksla
Aksla mountain dominates the skyline at the eastern edge of the Ålesund city center. Wandering around town it is easy to spot people climbing the 418 white stairs to the top.
The stairs feature several viewpoints, including Byrampen, a balcony with a glass barrier that is perfect for taking photos of the city’s gorgeous buildings and surrounding islands.
Getting there
Head to the western edge of the city park to find the stairs. From Kongens gate in the city center, follow the stairs up to Lihauggata. The park entrance is at the end of the street.
Trail description
From the park, there is a sign and a ramp up to the beginning of the staircase. The stairs wind up the western face of Aksla, the “city mountain”.
Along the staircase several rest areas and viewpoints making for an easy climb. Near the top you’ll reach the Byrampen viewpoint. It’s quite small so you may have to wait for others to take photos on a busy day.
Upon reaching the top you’ll find the Fjellstua restaurant and café. There are hiking trails and viewpoints further along the mountain.
