About Rasletinden

Rasletinden is one of the towering peaks situated along the west side of road 51, Valdresflye, between Bygdin and Gjendesheim. This hike is not especially difficult and is suitable for all ages.

From the top of Rasletinden, you will experience great views of the other surrounding peaks in the Leirungsdalen valley, an area which is often called the “Gjendealpene”, the Gjende Alps.

Getting there

Bus

From Oslo, take the NW161 Valdresekspressen route to the stop: “Bygdin”. This bus stop is located about 7 kilometers south of the trailhead. You can either walk north until you reach the trailhead or you can ask the bus driver to stop where the former Valdresflya Vandrehjem once stood.

Check out the other accessible adventures along the Valdresekspressen bus route: Valdresekspressen Pocket Guide.

Note: the NOR-WAY Valdresekspressen route between Bygdin and Leirvassbu only runs from late June through late September.

Car

From Oslo, head north on E16, towards Bergen, for 185 kilometers. When you reach Fagernes, follow signs to road 51, towards Vågå/Beitostølen. Follow road 51 for another 57 kilometers until you reach the parking lot located where the Valdresflya Vandrehjem once stood. It is located 7 kilometers north of Bygdin on the east side of the road and directly across from the trailhead to Rasletinden.

Note: road 51, "Valdresflya", is typically open from the end of April through December. You can see the road status at Vegvesen.no or you can call for road updates (in English): +47 815 48 991.

Trail description

The trailhead for the hike to Rasletinden is found across the street from the old Valdresflya Vandrehjem, the old hotel which burned down in 2015. The route to the top of the peak is well-marked, taking you from the valley floor up to the peak in just a few hours.

From the start of the trail, head west and be sure to keep to the right at the very first fork, located just a few hundred meters from the road. The trail will take you past a few ponds and up and through the small valley, Steindalen, until you reach the foot of the mountain. From here, follow the trail up towards the northeastern corner of the peak, and further southwest to the top.

Note: the second half of the hike takes you along a ridgeline, so be aware of your steep surroundings.
