About Sørre Hemsing
Sørre Hemsing is a listed farm with animals where the atmosphere of the old farming communities can still be experienced. The farm has a traditional square yard surrounded by buildings from 1600s and 1800s. The farm is situated in a unique cultural landscape with clearing stone piles, stone fences and rare meadow plants. Everything is as before but with modern comfort. Here children and adults relax.

Sørre Hemsing have a mountain farm in Ryssendalen over treeline 950 m.a.s.l. The old restored house contains a cozy living room with distinctive atmosphere where it is good to sit beyond the evenings after dinner is consumed. Until a new part with large kitchen / living room, 2 bedrooms, loft, bathroom with shower, toilet and sauna. Heated floors. Terrace along the whole house on the sunny side. Here you eat breakfast and here you enjoy afternoon coffee on good summer days while your eyes rest on the beautiful landscape. Accommodation for 6 persons.
On the mountain farm you prepare the food yourself. Here you are free to use the day along old mule marked trails or go wherever you want in the easy terrain.
Getting there by car:
From Oslo: E16 to Fagernes and 45 km further west in the direction of Lærdal . Arriving the lake Vangsmjøsa you turn right over the Hemsing bridge along county road 293 for 1.5 km.
From Bergen: E16 over Filefjell and down to the lake Vangsmjøsa. Drive along the lake in approximately 15 km before turning left over the Hemsing bridge along county road 293 for 1.5 km.
1) From the farm there is a beautiful hike along the old mule path up to the mountain farm in Rysndalen. The path is marked. There are information boards along the route. A great trip.
2) Tomashelleren is the closest lodge owned by the Norwegian Tourist Board. There is a nice walks on different paths that can be followed for those who want further into the mountains.
3) You can take your car to the top of the mountain plain Slettefjell, where it is flat grassland to go on. You are high above the timberline with magnificent views to the mountains of Jotunheimen and down the valley to the lake Vangsmjøsa. Fantastic views on descent back to Sørre Hemsing.
4) How about a hike along the first main road through Vang intended for horse and cart (Den Bergenske kongeveg)? You will experience the challenges of road construction before the dynamite was invented where the route follows the terrain up hill and down hill. Nice gras trail. Midway you pass the old sheriff's residence from 1780 serving of traditional food in magnificent surroundings in July and August.
