About Skarvedalsvatnet Lake
The mountain lake Skarvedalsvatnet is easily reached by a short hike through wild landscape. The contrast between the colorful heather and the rugged valleys created by the glacier higher up is a great reward for not too much effort.
This trail is suitable for families and those seeking a less demanding hike. The route leads through mellow terrain past a small waterfall and ponds. If you are lucky you might find a cloudberry or two.
Coming from Balestrand, follow Norwegian Scenic Route Gaularfjellet (Road 55 towards Dragsviki and then Road 613) to the Vetlefjord and up the hairpin bends to the Utsikten Viewpoint. The parking lot and trailhead is 4.3 kilometers further east, on the right-hand side.
Coming from Sunnfjord, follow Norwegian Scenic Route Gaularfjellet (Road 613 from Moskog or Road 610/613 from Sande) towards Balestrand. You’ll find the parking lot and trailhead on your left-hand side 1 kilometre after passing the Fossestien/Torsnesstølen parking lot.
The trail starts on the right-hand side of the parking lot. It is not marked, but easy to find.
Follow the trail over small hills and slightly uneven terrain towards the small waterfall coming down from the lake to the north. Walk along the the western edge of the tiny lake. The trail becomes a little steeper in the second half as it approaches Skarvedalsvatnet.
- Hiking boots or shoes with good grip are recommended, as some areas can be a bit wet
- You might find some cloudberries along the way, so keep your eyes open for the orange mountain treats
- Free parking
- There are toilets at Utsikten Viewpoint, 4.3 kilometers east of the trailhead
