About Nystøgun - Støgonøse
Støgonøse is a dominant mountain at Nystøga. The mountain can seem overwhelming and menacing with its steep ascent up from Otrøvatnet, and has fascinated many of the early painters like Carpeland. From Nystøga it is a nice, short hike to the top where you will also find an observation tower from the days of the cold war. Great views.
Nystøga was built as a mountain cabin to accommodate people passing over the mountain back when people walked or rode. There are many dramatic stories of winter traffic in the wind and blizzards linked to Nystøga, as in written sources first time mentioned in 1627.
