Ranknøse is a grand tour in dry weather because there is a good deal of rocks.
At the junction in the middle of Smådalsfjellet, drive 700 m south into Smådalen to the information board. Here you can park your car and you will find signs to Rankonøse. You wade through Smådøla, and cross Tverråne so you can stay on the north side of the river inward Hestebotten. The map points you in the upward direction to Gravarskaret where at approximately 1700 meters above sea level you will pass a fairly large reindeer trap. When you get up on Rankonøse you turn west if you want to get up on the highest point, or east to Klanten, where you have brilliant views of Smådalen with their special moraine landscape - which is the reason that the area is protected.
Downwards you can follow the same way, or go the steeper route east down the back of Klanten.
