4.2 kilometers (out‑and‑back)
Should you be in the mood for a varied and somewhat special trip, a hike to the top of Mjellknapp might be right for you. In only a couple of hours you've gotten a taste of willow landscape, the "mysterious" Tjørobytta, a pitfall, and some safe scrambling over scree slopes.
1.5 km above the Slettefjellsbommen (boom barrier), you take a left inward toward Herredalen valley, and continue on until you have passed a quarry on the right hand (1020 meters above sea level). You can park a few hundred meters further ahead. On foot you then cross Rysna on a footbridge made of concrete. The trail winds nicely along the creek and over rocks up to the lakeside Tjørobytta. Here is a nice spot for a picnic. So far you've walked a lot on grass, but now stone is predominant. Further up you get rewarded with a wonderful view over Slettfjellet, Slidrebygdene and into the Jotunheim.
