This bike adventure take you 'haute route' in the National Park Region, in the heart of the mountains of Norway.
Free parking available on the North side of road E136 by Lesja city hall.
Alternativ start at Vidflotten ski stadium - drive the Vestsidevegen, road Fv 496, to Slådalsvegen. Park at the stadium. Toll road if you want to drive further, use payment card to pay fee.
Slådalsvegen road follow mostly the old road between Lesja and Vågåmo in Vågå municipality. The gravel road is good and with not too much traffic. It is only open during summer. From the bike seat you really get time to enjoy the surroundings on your way across the mountian.
The highest point on the trip is 1180 meters above sea level. This indicates quite a climb until you are over the tree line.
If you wish for an shorter and more gentle adventure, it is possible to park at Fauttjønn and bike only the mountain plateau, which gives you the best panoramic view to the surrounding national parks.
If you like to stretch your feet a hike to Gråhøe is recommended.
The landscape across the mountain here is beautiful and it is much to thank the grazing animals like sheep, cattle and wild reindeer.
In the whole area old findings after wild reindeer hunt is to be found.
