About Beitostølen to Tyinholmen loop
This is a cycling loop starting from Beitostølen, that takes you to the Tyinholmen Mountain Lodge and back to Beitostølen with the boat ride on Bygdin Lake. The total length is approx. 95 km and it is best suitable for more experienced cyclists.
From Oslo, take the Valdresekspressen, NW161 and get off in Beitostølen.
From Oslo, the drive is about 3.5 hours. Take E18 until reaching Sandvika. Then follow E16 to Bygdinvegen/Fv51 in Nord-Aurda. Turn right onto Bygdinvegen/Fv51. The hotel will be on your left.
From The Radisson BLU Mountain Resort, cycle towards the center of the town, and turn right at the intersection towards Beito. Follow the Mjølkevegen signs to Slettefjellvegen.
The ascent to Mount Slettefjell is spectacular, but challenging - with a height increase of approx. 500 meters. On a clear day, the view from its highest point 1,315 m.a.s.l., is truly stunning. The descent is steep, and the gravel road can get slippery, so be cautious! It is recommended to stop and admire the Sputrefossen waterfall on the right side of the road before you reach the tollbooth.
At the tollbooth, turn right, and then continue left on Hensåsvegen in the direction of the historical Sørre Hemsing Farm. After a well-deserved meal and perhaps overnight stay at Sørre Hemsing, turn left and return a few hundred meters from where you came from, before turning left onto Vennisvegen. Continue on the north side of the Vangsmjøsa Lake, but be aware that you should not cross the Hemsing bridge towards E16. The lake should be on your left-hand side. When you reach the end of Vangsmjøsa, continue up to Tyinkrysset either by following the main road E16 or accessing the historical Kongevegen (King's Road) between Øye and Tyinkrysset.
At Tyinkrysset, there is a grocery store, sporting goods store and tourist information center as well as places to eat and sleep.
From Tyinkrysset, cycle in the direction of Tyin and follow the idyllic gravel road, Road 252, along Tyin Lake. At Tyinholmen Lodge, you can enjoy a cozy and traditional accommodation and a homemade meal. The natural surroundings are breathtaking and it is definitely an area to explore! It's approximately 20 km from Tyin to Eidsbugarden, where the historical boat, M/B Bitihorn, will take you across the Bygdin Lake and back to Bygdin. (For info and time schedule at JVB. From Bygdin, it's approx. 12 km to Beitostølen along Road 51.
