Tackle two of Bergen's most known mountains in one adventure with the hike along the famous trail, "Vidden". This hike takes you across the plateau providing incredible views of the surrounding mountain tops and the beautiful city of Bergen below.
Start the trail from either Fløyen or Ulriken and trek the nearly 13 kilometers to the other end. Vidden is a "must" during your stay in Bergen.
From downtown Bergen, follow directions to the Fløibanen, the cable car taking you to the top of Fløyen and to the trailhead for Vidden. The cable car is located near downtown, only a few blocks east of the historic Bryggen area.
From the cable car, you can either pay to ride it to the top, or you can walk up the trail to Fløyen.
Starting the adventure from Fløyen and hiking to Ulriken is the recommended route. Make your way to the top of the Fløyen, the viewpoint over Bergen, by way of the cable car or hiking. From the top of Fløyen, follow the route towards Brushytta and Blåmannen. After Blåmannen, you will pass the northern edge of the lake Tindevatnet to the east and then follow the trail down towards Hyttalien.
Continue northeast and around the northwest side of the mountain, Midtfjellet. The trail will turn southeast and will follow a ridgeline for 2,5 kilometers. The trail will then turn south as you reach the plateau. Follow in this direction for another few kilometers until turning west at the peak of Ulriken. From Ulriken, you can return to Bergen on the cable car or you can hike down the mountain on the marked trail.
This adventure takes around 5 hours, one-way. If you choose to hike up to Fløyen and down from Ulriken, add at least another hour.
- This is a great trail for skiing in the winter when there is enough snow.
- There are cafes and public restrooms located at the top of both Fløyen and Ulriken.
