About Loop by Torgersøya

Enjoy views of this gorgeous area, while kayaking around Torgersøya. The loop is part of Padleled Vestfold and the entry point is at Fjærholmen.

The island borders Færder National Park, a popular area for recreation and outdoor activities. Along the route, there are many skerries to stop on to take a break.

Færder National Park is in the region located along the western coastline of the Oslofjord. The park is spread over the islands of Nøtterøy, Tjøme, Hvasser, and Bolærne, just a two-hour drive from the hustle and bustle of Oslo

Getting there

This adventure starts at Fjærholmen, outside of Tønsberg, a 2-hour drive south of the capital city, Oslo.

Upon reaching, Tønsberg, look for signs towards "Nøtterøy" (Road 308), an island south of the city. After driving across the bridge to Nøtterøy, turn left onto Road 309 towards Fjærholmen and Årøysund.

After about 2.5 km, turn left onto "Føynlandveien" towards Fjærholmen and Føynland. From here, it's only 3 km more on smaller roads towards Fjærholmen. Make sure you follow the white signs towards Fjærholmen.

Trail description

Be aware of the boat traffic in this area during the summer season. If you prefer not paddling among many boats, do this kayak tour in the early morning or late at night, when there's less traffic.

From Fjærholmen, paddle north along Føynland and Husø before paddling to Jarlsø and Ormøy, a great place to take a break. Continue paddling towards the northern side of Torgersøya, where there are many places to pitch your tent along the bay.

Then paddle south to Tørfest and Masseløy, which are also nice islands to spend the night. The route continues towards the skerry, Steinkloss before returning to Fjærholmen.

Alternative route
If you have the time, paddle around Bolærneøyene, where there is a lot to discover both underwater and on land.

At Fjærholmen you can find:

  • A small beach for swimming
A campsite with toilets and a small kiosk
  • Toilets
  • Free parking

Where to stay

Fjærholmen is right outside of the city of Tønsberg. Here you will find lots of overnight options such as hotels or Airbnb's.
