About Spranget to Rondvassbu

This route is stage 1 of the full Rondane Triangle hike. Stage 2 is from Rondvassbu to Dørålseter.

Getting there

The hike starts at Spranget parking lot in Rondane. The parking lot is located along the gravel road going from Mysusæter into Rondane National Park. Parking is free.

If you have a car you can drive from Otta and up to Mysusæter. When you get to Mysusæter, take a left once you reach the small grocery store at the end of the road. Follow this road uphill and through some turns and then take a right to follow the road uphill towards the national park. At the start of this hill, there is a toll booth (20 NOK) where you can pay with a credit card. From the toll booth, you must drive another 4 kilometers until you reach the parking lot at Spranget.

You can get to Otta by train from Oslo or Trondheim. From Otta take the bus to Mysusæter. Usually, there is one bus in the morning and one in the afternoon. Check out the timetables at Entur or Opplandstrafikk.no or call Opplandstrafikk at +47 61 28 90 00.

Trail description

From the parking lot, you can choose to walk the 6 km along the road to Rondvassbu or if you want a more interesting hike, then follow the small gravel road down to the river, cross the river and follow the trail on the west side of the river all the way to Rondvassbu. Just before you get to the cabin you will need to cross the river on a bridge again to get to the cabin itself.

A third alternative is to rent a bike at Spranget for 120 NOK and bike the gravel road to Rondvassbu. The rental bikes are located in the parking lot, and you need to call Rondvassbu at +47 61 23 18 66 to unlock them.

  • Stay a few nights at Rondvassbu and check out other great peaks in this area.
  • The road to Spranget parking lot is often closed until the 15th of June.
