About Børesteinen
This hike is demanding as the trail travels steeply uphill all the way, reaching an elevation of almost 1,000 meters above sea level. Conditions are breezy and unprotected at the top, so do not leave children unattended.
Getting there
Car
This hike starts from Luster Village, located along Road 55 (Norwegian Scenic Route Sognefjellet). Park by the Luster care center. Alternatively, there’s a parking lot on the other side of the river.
Bus
In summer, the local route no. 200 (Lom-Sognefjellet-Sogndal) run across the Sognefjellet mountain plateau. Alight from the bus at Luster. Buy your tickets aboard the bus or via the app Opplandstrafikk Billett.
Also, the local route no. 153 (Sogndal-Gaupne-Fortun) calls at Luster. Buy your ticket aboard the bus. Use Entur to plan your trip.
Trail description
The final stretch towards the peak is exposed, so tread carefully. Once at the top, stunning fjord views await.

Where to stay
Døsen Farm bed and breakfast is situated along Road 55, about 1 kilometer south of Luster. This traditional farm is now turned into a modern bed and breakfast, offering apartment, hotel, and glamping (glamorous camping) accommodation. Another option is Turtagrø Hotel, which is located alongside Road 55, about 30 kilometers northeast of Fortun. It dates back to the 1880s but was recently renovated. They serve breakfast, lunch, and three-course dinners. Campsite rental is also available, which includes access to showers, toilets, and a common area. The lodge is open between Easter and mid-September.
