About Børesteinen

The hike to the top of Børesteinen grants you one of the best views possible of the Luster fjord and village. Enjoy as vistas of the green hillsides and pristine fjord spread out before you as you reach the top of the peak.

This hike is demanding as the trail travels steeply uphill all the way, reaching an elevation of almost 1,000 meters above sea level. Conditions are breezy and unprotected at the top, so do not leave children unattended.

Getting there

Car

This hike starts from Luster Village, located along Road 55 (Norwegian Scenic Route Sognefjellet). Park by the Luster care center. Alternatively, there’s a parking lot on the other side of the river.

Bus

In summer, the local route no. 200 (Lom-Sognefjellet-Sogndal) run across the Sognefjellet mountain plateau. Alight from the bus at Luster. Buy your tickets aboard the bus or via the app Opplandstrafikk Billett.

Also, the local route no. 153 (Sogndal-Gaupne-Fortun) calls at Luster. Buy your ticket aboard the bus. Use Entur to plan your trip.

Trail description

The trail starts by the Luster care center and heads up via the “old road” to the mountain farm Berge. From there, the trail continues uphill, reaching almost 1,000 meters above sea level. The climb to the peak is demanding because of the considerable elevation gain, but the path is easy to follow the entire way. You might come across snowy sections in the east-facing hillsides up until the middle of June.

The final stretch towards the peak is exposed, so tread carefully. Once at the top, stunning fjord views await.

Descend along the same trail.
