About Röjden to Medskogen
This route is stage 9 of the full Finnskogleden hike. Stage 10 is from Medskogen to Haldammen.
Trail description
This longer stage travels over a few hills that provide great views along the way. From Röjden, hike west for 6 kilometers along a flat trail into Norway. Just before reaching Breisjøen, the trail moves away from the road and into the woods to the north. The trail rises slowly upwards to the pond Kottern.
From there, the trail becomes steeper up to Gråberget, at 631 meters above sea level. After the peak, the undulating trail passes over several hills and through a few wooded marshes. The trail follows the border up to the highest point of the trip, Elgklinten at 634 m.a.s.l., with a magnificent view of Finnskogen.
Continue following the border for a few more kilometers before turning west towards the Finnish village Furuberget, where the lovely farmland is sprinkled with many old buildings. After Furuberget, continue north for a few kilometers until reaching Østbakken and a panoramic view of Vermundsjøen lake.
Continue hiking to Mattiashemmet, which was an important border crossing for refugees during World War II. Cross the border into Sweden and follow the trail down to the river and across the bridge. From here, hike the final 500 meters to Medskogen, which is located along the main road.
