About Mitandersfors to Lebiko
This route is stage 3 of the full Finnskogleden hike. Stage 4 is from Lebiko to Øyermoen.
The trail crosses the Bogsälven river at Mitandersfors and rises through the forest towards Bengtstorp. From there, hike through the easy woodland to Lomstorp located at the north end of lake Lomsen. Follow the trail another 1.5 kilometers towards Ritamäki, which is the perfect place for a break. This area was inhabited until 1964 and has since become a nature reserve with rich flora and fauna and even a “røykstue”, a smokehouse.
From Ritamäki, continue another 2–3 kilometers further to Lebiko, crossing back across the border to Norway. Lebiko was a waypoint for many Norwegian refugees during World War II. Here, they received food and rest before being continuing over the border through Kissalamp and to freedom in neutral Sweden. Lebiko was in action until 1964.
- Snacks are available at Ritamäki in June, July, and August
Drinking water is available from lakes and creeks along the trail
Where to stay
At Lebiko, you will find a DNT cabin. It is locked with a standard DNT member’s key, which you can collect at the Norwegian Trekking Association office in Oslo. Unmanned DNT cabins do not have food available but you have access to a gas cooker for making food.
If you want to hike further, it is less than 3 kilometers to Kvåho, which is open and where you can also spend the night.
