About Morokulien to Håvilsrud
This route is stage 1 of the full Finnskogleden hike. Stage 2 is from Håvilsrud to Mitandersfors.
The Finnskogleden trail starts by the main road, just behind the peace monument. From there it heads northwest on the gravel road to the river Vexla. Cross the bridge over the river and continue along the dirt road to Breitjenn. Breitjenn is a nice place to take a rest or go for a swim. After Breitjenn, the dirt road turns into a trail. Follow the trail until you reach a place called Billia, where you cross into Sweden. Pass over a forested hill and finish in Håvilsrud.
Håvildsrud is a small village that extends across the border into Norway, where it is called Kjerret.
- Drinking water is available from lakes and creeks along the trail
- Stock up on food at Morokulien as there are no other stores until Røgden, at the end of stage 6.
Where to stay
You can spend the night in a “gapahuk” by the river Jösseälven. A gapahuk is a small building with 3 walls built for temporary residence during fishing or hiking trips out in the wilderness. Alternatively you can stay at Ronja Farm, located 1 kilometer north, along county road 361. Here, they offer a “bed and breakfast” and cabins. To book a room, call +47 902 52 309. There is also a campsite with a few cabins available nearby, called Håvildsrud Vildmark Camp. Call +46 703 520 699 for more information.
