About The Blue Lake
The Blue Lake (Blåvannet) has an intense blue color which stands in stark contrast to the steep mountains sitting behind.
The moderate trail to the lake is well-marked and family-friendly. The best time to visit the lake is in summer or autumn and on sunny afternoons.
The Blue Lake is located on the western side of the Lyngen Alps.
Parking is available at Sørlenangsbotn, 15 kilometers drive north from the Svensby ferry terminal.
Driving from Svensby you will pass the large Jægervatnet Lake on your right. A few minutes later, turn right towards Sør-Lenangen. The parking lot is 1.3 kilometers down this road, on the right-hand side.
Driving from Tromsø takes about 2.5 hours, including the ferry crossing from Breivikeidet to Svensby.
The trail is marked. Follow the markers with the red tops. The last part of the walk up to the lake involves climbing over large stones and scree.
To extend the hike, take a detour past Aspevatnet Lake. When you reach the cabins, cross the bridge and follow the marked route to Aspevatnet. Aspevatnet also makes for an easier alternative hike (2 kilometers return).
- The beautiful blue colour of the water is due to silt particles in the meltwater from the Lenangsbreen glacier.
