Classic spring skiing to Merratind (1702 meters above see level) - with panorama view!
Turn off E136 about 3 km west of Lesjaverk train station. Follow the sign "Fjellvegen". This mountain road will be cleared of snow before Easter. It's a toll road, so bring cash.
With access from Fjellvegen, the mountain road at Lesjaverk, you will start the trip with easy skiing towards Merratind. Most people can do this trip, and it's a great choise when the weather is good.
Half way up the Gråhøe mountain (1565 meters above see level), you will pass a tiny cottage. Continue over Gråhøe mountain and follow the wide ridge towards Merratind. The last 200 meters to the summit are some what steeper. If the snow is all blown away you might want to leave your skiis here and continue on foot to the top. Enjoy the view!
Follow the same route back. Fun skiing!
Right after you start skiing you will enter Dalsida landscape protection area. Dalsida is an important haunt for the last genetically pure wild reindeer population in Europe. If you are lucky and see wild reindeer, sit down and enjoy the sight. We can help the reindeer at this time of year by not disturbing them more than necessary, keeping our dogs on a leash and taking a big detour around them. This time of year, the reindeers are vulnerable due to poor access to food and they need to save energy towards calving in May.
