What You’ll Do

We will meet at our headquarters, where we will provide you with snowshoes and poles that you need for the trip. You will need to bring hiking boots to use with the snowshoes and it is good to have a hiking boot comes up a bit higher on the ankle so snow will not fall in your shoe. After the gear has been fitted, we take a short drive up to the starting point of this trip.

Our snowshoes will give us the feeling of floating on the snow and gives us a great stability to conquer the snow filled mountains around Stranda. They also work really well on icy snow and gives us a great grip on hard conditions.

When we reach the top of Lievarden, the reward will be a truly unique and spectacular view over the fjord, Stranda, and the surrounding mountains. From here we can also see towards Jostedalsbreen, Europe’s biggest glacier. We will take a break for some lunch at the top and enjoy the views before we head back down again.

Along the tour, we are likely to see some wildlife like rabbits, deers and grouses which are often hiding out around here.

Meeting Point

We'll meet up at our base in Stranda. Stranda is located north of Jostedalsbreen national park, accessible by car, train, bus or plane from any of Norway's largest cities, with Ålesund being the closest.

In the winter, there are two alternative routes from Oslo to Stranda by car:

1) Follow E6 to Dombås, then head towards Åndalsnes on E136 and continue this road almost to Ålesund, ferry from Magerholm to Aursnes and then through Sykkylven to Stranda.

2) Follow E6 to Otta and then take road 15 to Stryn and then road 60 to Stranda.

If conditions is harsh, the first alternative would be your easiest option.

Nabobil is always an option for getting around in Norway as well, if you have a Scandinavian drivers license. Be sure to add the discount code “outtt” to save NOK 250,- on your rental.

The bus from Oslo to Stranda leaves once a day and takes about 10 hours in total, with one transfer at Stryn. Book your tickets at

From Ålesund, there are many buses traveling to Stranda per day. The trip takes about 2 hours. Visit the website, Fram, for departure times.

From Oslo, take the train to Otta takes about 3,5 hours. From Otta, take the bus NX146 to Stryn, this takes about 3 hours, and then take the local route 250 to Stranda for another 1,5 hours.

Simplest, quickest and most expensive is flying from Oslo to the airport in Ålesund, called Vigra. Order tickets through SAS or Norwegian. From Ålesund take the bus or rent a car to drive to Stranda.
