About Ersfjordbotn

This "must visit" viewpoint is located just 30 minutes away from Tromsø and is every bit worth the trip. Situated just 40 meters from the parking lot, this viewpoint is accessible by all if you are in Tromsø or on Kvaløya. It is located 30 minutes from Tromsø and located just you just need to walk 40 meters from your car, and you will get a beautiful view over Ersfjorden and the beautiful high peaks on both sides of the fjord. 

Getting there

Car:

Head out of Tromsø on road 862 in the direction of Kvaløya (northwest). After crossing the bridge to Kvaløya, continue following road 862 for another 10.4 km until keeping right towards “Tromvik” and “Ersfjordbotn”. Follow this road for 1.6 km until you meet the sign "Ersfjordbotn" or "Tromvik". At this sign, keep to the left towards Ersfjordbotn. Just a few meters further, you will see a parking lot on your right-hand side with a sign that says "Blåmann idrettspark". In the wintertime, this parking lot may be full of snow so it may be easier to park your car on the side of the road, or next to the building on the other side of the road and walk from there. 

Bus:

The 425 bus from Tromsø Prostneset, the main bus station, will travel to Ersfjordbotn. You can view the updated bus times on Tromsø's transportation website

You are able to purchase tickets, which is about 50 NOK, on the bus but only cash payments are accepted.

Tromsø’s free transportation app, “Troms Mobillett”, is also available for download which will help plan departure times as well as pay bus fares.

Trail description

The viewpoint is located just 40 meters from the parking lot and will provide exquisite views of the fjord and the surrounding towering mountains. 

Facts

This location is a popular place for tourists and one can enjoy the beautiful scenery both day and night! It is a popular place to experience and take photos of the Northern Lights because of the beautiful mountains on both sides of the fjord. If you want to get away from the city and street lights, drive further down to the fjord and find a nice location right by the sea. 

Along the water, you will find the cafe "Bryggejentene" where you can buy some food and coffee. On the other side of the road, you will find the start of the trail to "Nattmålstinden". An easy and beautiful hike in the summer. 

There are a lot of reindeer in this area and if you are lucky, you might see some. If you go down to the fjord, you can take an extra look around, maybe you will spot a white-tailed sea eagle, too!
