Lonketind Hiking Trail
A path up to heaven
- Destination: Senja
- Season: May-October
- Difficulty: Demanding
- Distance: 5.7 kilometers (out‑and‑back)
- Elevation Gain: 780 meters
- Duration: 4-6 hours
There are a lot of impressive peaks on Senja which are hard to hike but provide views that are worth the effort. Lonketind is a little different: it is not a very difficult climb, but it still gives you the amazing views of Senja and the surrounding Atlantic Ocean.
Lonketind, 848 m.a.s.l, is situated on the very southwest end of the Senja island, close to Stonglandseidet. The hike up to the top is easy with a well-defined trail and never very steep.
Take the road going towards Skrolsvik from Å. About 2 kilometers after you pass Å, you will find a gravel road on your right-hand side, heading up into the forest.
Drive along this gravel road for about 500 meters until you reach the end, where you will find a small area to park. There is only room for about 4 or 5 cars. It’s not recommended for motorhomes.
From the parking lot at the end of the road, just follow the path heading towards the peak. The slope up to the peak is fairly constant and it is quite easy to follow the trail all the way to the top.
- Free parking
