Stuttgongfossen (Stuttgong Waterfall) has an incredible 22-meter drop. It is well worth the visit, whether you have some spare time while traveling through the Sjoa Valley, staying at Hindsæter Hotel, or heading up to Stuttgongkampen. You can even walk to the bottom of the waterfall, but be careful not to slip on the wet rocks near the edge. Keep an eye open for kayakers testing their courage down the waterfall.
The waterfall is located about 100 meters from the road and just 300 meters from the nearby Hindsæter Hotel. The hydro-power station at the bottom of the waterfall supplies electricity for both the Hindsæter Hotel and 13% of Vågå municipality.
If heading northbound, on the way down from Valdresflya, continue past Besstrond Camping and park at Hindsæter Hotel.
When coming from the south either from Vågå or Sjoa, the road intersects at Randsverk and follows the Sjoa river. Park at Hindsæter Hotel.
Buses do not run frequently, but the closest stop is “Hindseter” a few hundred meters south of the hotel.
The trip starts at Hindsæter Hotel, where you will head north, by crossing Road 51. From there walk down the dirt road, and through the gate. The waterfall will be on your left-hand side.
At the bottom of the waterfall, turn left, and walk up to the bridge on the top. On the way to the top, there are multiple spots to stop and enjoy the roaring 22-meter waterfall.
Where to stay
Hindsæter is a historic hotel, that recently was renovated and is located near many trails. Make sure to try the local reindeer served at dinner and spend time in the sauna.
