About Gressholmen

The Gressholmen, Heggholmen and Rambergøya islands are a set of three connected islands in the Oslofjord, and by far are the most rustic islands in the area.

Gressholmen was the home to Oslo’s first airport, which was established in 1927. Heggholmen features one of the oldest and most important lighthouses in the fjord, which still works today. Camping and grilling are prohibited on the island. Gressholmen Kro is one of the oldest cafes in the inner Oslofjord.

Getting there

Take ferry number B1/B3/B4 from Rådhusbrygge 4 [City Hall Pier 4] (located near the “Rådhuset”, “Aker Brygge”, and “Nationaltheatret” public transportation stops) to Gressholmen. Ferry number B1 runs all-year long, but the best time to visit the islands is anytime between May and September. These ferries are operated by Ruter, so there is no need to buy an additional ticket if you already hold a Ruter pass.

Trail description

The islands consist of numerous well-maintained dirt paths, with some minor rocks and roots. The east side of Gressholmen and the south side of Rambergøya have a variety of great locations for swimming and sunbathing.

The bay between Rambergøya and Gressholmen is a nature reserve, where ducks, geese, and swans come to nest.
