Bårdsfjellet Mountain Biking
Tackle one of Oppdal’s most popular mountain biking trails
- Destination: Oppdal
- Season: June–November
- Difficulty: Medium
- Distance: 3.5 kilometers (out‑and‑back)
- Elevation Gain: 310 meters
- Duration: 1–1.5 hours
A little further up the valley from Raudhovden–Hindset’n lies one of Oppdal’s most popular mountain biking trails. The varied trail up to Bårdsfjellet takes you to 1,146 m.a.s.l. before a thrilling journey back down.
Follow road 70 west from Oppdal towards Sunndalsøra. After 7 km, turn right onto Nerskogvegen (road 512). After 7.2 km lies a parking lot.
From the parking lot, cross the river to the west and cycle along the old gravel road for around 800 meters. From there, a marked trail takes you up through the birch woods. You’ll soon be through the woods and get the feeling of high-mountain terrain under you.
The incline is gradual and for the most part it should be managed without having to walk the bike. The last climb towards the top is more rugged and somewhat steeper. From the top there are views over the entire Gjevilvassdalen valley to the west and Skaret to the east.
Descend along the same trail.
These trails are shared with hikers and runners and it’s the responsibility of bikers to slow down for others. If you want more chance of being on an undisturbed trail head out early in the morning.
