This is possibly Finnemarka's best hiking trail. It goes through a beautiful area not even know by many people living around Drammen. The loop takes you through a forested area and up to the Solbergvarden peak with views of Drammen in the east, and Kongsberg and Hokksund in the east.
The climb on this hike is pretty strenuous, but the views at the top are going to make you forget all your struggles.
The trailhead is located at a small parking lot in Solbergelva. From Drammen follow road 283 going west towards Hokksund. When you get to the round-a-bout with a sign for Solbergelva take a right onto Teglverksveien and then right after a left on Gamle Riksvei.
After 650 meters take a left onto Solbergveien just before the grocery store Kiwi. Follow this road straight as it changes its name to Batteriveien and then later to Myrabakken and Bergåsveien. At the end of Bergåsveien take a left onto the gravel road and just 50 meters later you see the parking lot on your right-hand side.
From the parking lot continue onwards 800 meters on the gravel road up to the next parking lot. At this parking lot find the blue marked trail in the west end of the lot. The trail starts crossing some slopes of naked rock before it heads into the forest. It climbs gradually all the way up to the first junction. Make sure you take a left here and you will quickly get into an area called Alakkane. Aslakkane has lots of naked rock and a small creek is running through this area. A perfect spot for a break.
Just after crossing the creek at Aslakkane you will see a sign for Solbergvarden. From here and up to the peak it is very steep so take it easy and make sure you bring enough water. You can fill up your bottle from the creek running through Aslakkane.
As you get close to the peak the best views are a bit before you hit the top. To see eastwards go all the way to the top and you can see mountains such as Gaustatoppen, Blefjell and Norefjell.
From Solbergvarden head down to Aslakkane again, but once down follow the marked trail to your right. Follow this marked trail for about 400 meters until you cross a small creek. Just after this creek follow the trail to your left instead of continuing on the marked trail.
This trail goes across a fairly open area before it heads down towards the parking lot. The trails going down is easy to find, but the forest is very thick so you don't see much. Eventually, the trail meets the road and you can just head to the right on this road and you will get back to the parking lot.
