The hike to Høgevarde is a steep climb but it will reward you with incredible views from the top.
From Oslo, follow road E18 east until taking the exit for road E16 north towards Bergen. Follow road E16 for 40 kilometers until you reach the roundabout and a sign for road 7 towards Bergen/Gol/Geilo. Follow road 7 for 43 kilometers until taking a lefthand turn towards Seteren and Høgevarde. Follow this road for 2 kilometers until taking a righthand turn onto Gulsviksetervegen road towards Høgevarde Fjellpark and cabin area.
Here, you will go through a toll booth where you can pay with a card. Continue following the road up the mountain for 12 kilometers until you reach a small parking lot on the side of the road near the highest point of the cabin area.
From the parking lot, head up the road for 500 meters until taking a righthand turn up one of the cabin roads. Follow the road until the end until you see the red-marked DNT trail towards Høgevarde. The trail will head southwest and then up the northern ridge of the mountain.
The first three kilometers are up a steady climb and then it will level out a bit for the last kilometer before the small climb to the top of the peak on the left.
- Toll road at the bottom of the mountain
- Free parking
