Ferry & Car
From Stavanger, take the ferry from Fiskepirterminalen to Skipavik Ferjekai. EnTur has the updated schedule here.
From the Skipavik Ferjekai, drive north along the shoreline road for 2 kilometers until you reach the parking area at the end of the road. Park your car for free by the dock.
From the parking area at Tjeltveit, walk up the hill along the road for about a kilometer until you reach the trail ("sjøarveien"). Follow the trail northwest until you reach Helgeland, a sheep farm, where you will see a few homes near each other.
From Helgeland, the trail continues northwest and increases in altitude quite quickly. The tour takes you through varied landscape and will present nice views all the way to the top. If you are lucky, you may come across moose, deer, and local sheep grazing in the area. If you are hiking during the right season, you will also find blueberries and tyttebær (similar to cranberries).
Once you make it to the top, you will see the best views of Ryfylke and all the way to Stavanger, in the southwest. Return to the beginning of the hike along the same route.
- The trail is well-marked
- Good hiking shoes are recommended - the trail can be both wet and rocky
