Trail description
From Øye Stave Church, follow E16 for 1.4 kilometers before turning left onto the historic road marked by an obvious sign. The road goes up and down in gentle slopes towards Varpe bridge. Just before the Kølabrune bridge, there is a steep climb until the terrain flattens out towards Tyinkrysset. Turn left onto Grøvstølvegen and finish the hike at Filefjellstuene, where you can stay the night and enjoy great local food.
This section of Kongevegen has several good examples of the French style of road construction, where the road heads straight as long as possible despite the hilly terrain. The steep hills were once impossible for horses with a cart to pass without several breaks.
