About Arøya Loop
Stokkøya, and Store-, Lille- and Vesle Arøy are fantastic areas to paddle around with their narrow straits and smooth rocky coastline, facing both Langesundfjorden and Skagerrak in the west. These islands are the most southeastern islands of Vestfold.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 132 kilometers until you reach exit toward Fv 303 Larvik. Follow signs towards Fv302 - Helgeroa. Stay on Fv302/Brunlanesveien for nearly 12 kilometers until you turn right onto the road, Strandebakken. Stay on Strandebakken for a few hundred meters until you arrive in Helgeroa.
From Helgeroa, paddle west along the coastline to the first peninsula where you will cross over to Stokkøya in the northwest. Follow the western side of the island into Stokksundet strait and paddle between the two islands until you reach the north end of Store Arøya. Head west and then south through the Arøysund strait and then back north along the western shoreline of Lille Arøya island. Shortly after you round the northern tip, paddle south into the narrow strait. For the rest of the route, paddle along the eastern coasts of the islands. During this stretch, you will find some fun and narrow straits as well as small islets, worthy of exploring. From the southern point of the Stokkøya, cross back to Helgeroa.
When you are on the north side of Lille Arøya, you can cross to Håøya and to Paradisbukta bay. From Paradisbukta it is a nice hike to the top of Håøya. Paddle south along the shoreline of Håøya and at the southern tip you can cross back to Store Arøya in the southwest and then finally back to Helgeroa.
At Helgeroa you can find:
- Public restrooms
- Fresh water
