About Viksfjord Loop
In Viksfjorden you can paddle through the sheltered waters away from the open ocean, in a culturally significant area among small islands and reefs.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 117 kilometers until you reach exit 42 toward Fv 305 Sandefjord. Follow Fv305 to Fv303 through Sandefjord and follow signs to Larvik. Stay on Fv303 for nearly 8.2 kilometers until you turn left onto the road, Ulaveien. Stay on Ulaveien for 2.7 kilometers until turning right onto the road, Eftangveien. Stay on Eftangveien for 4.4 kilometers until reaching the parking lot just south of Rønningen Camping.
From Ølbergholmen, the trip heads north along the shoreline. You will pass Fort Rønningen Camping and after about a kilometer you will reach Kåvan, where there are a few peninsulas that extend south. At this point, turn northwest and cross to the northside of Langøya island, past Rauholmen island, and towards Hesteberget on the mainland due north. Continue paddling past the boats at Bjønnes.
Bjønnes is approximately the midway point of the fjord arm in Viksfjord. The trip continues east into Viksfjord, between idyllic islands, islets, and the mainland. Follow the shoreline until you reach Vikerøya island, where the fjord is most narrow. Paddle over to Vikerøya and follow the shoreline around the southern edge and further around Skogsholmen island. Cross over to the mainland in the south and follow it southeast for about three kilometers, through the strait between Mjølbergholmen island and the mainland, and return back to Ølbergholmen.
Shorten the trip a bit by crossing eastwards towards Vikerøya from Bjønnes. Paddle southwards along Vikerøya island and directly south to the mainland. Continue east along the mainland back to Ølbergholmen.
At Ølbergholmen you can find:
- Public restrooms
- Public parking
