About Sandefjordsfjorden Loop

If you seek paddling trips along rocky coastlines and beautiful beaches, a trip in Sandefjords’ fjord is perfect for you.

The adventure is part of Padleled Vestfold and the entry point for the adventure is Langeby.

Getting there

From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 117 kilometers until you reach exit 42 toward Fv 305 Sandefjord. Follow Fv305 to Fv303 through Sandefjord and follow signs to Vesterøya. Once at Vesterøya, stay on “Vesterøyveien” for 6.5 kilometers until you take a right towards your destination at Langeby Camping.

Trail description

This kayaking route from Langeby Camping takes you first to Hellesøya island in the west and along its southern shoreline. The island offers nice swimming areas and great places to pitch a tent. Further south, across the strait, you pass one of Vestfold's most beautiful and popular beaches, Vøra Badestrand.

At the edge of Kvernberget, the point just south of Vøra Badestrand, you will cross to the west side of the fjord towards Saltholmen. Be aware of boat traffic in and out of the fjord, especially the Strømstad Ferry!

Follow the western shoreline north to the group of islets just east of Granholmen. Here you will find the Furuholmene and Bjerkholmene islets, which are fun to paddle through. Continue about one kilometer north of Granholmen where you will reach the Trangsholmene islets. Here, you will cross the fjord over to the east at the most narrow point of the fjord.

On the eastern side of the fjord, you will find several fantastic beaches which are perfect locations to take a break. The first is Asnes, which lies at the entrance to the small bay at Korsvika. From Korsvika, continue around the peninsula to the southeast towards the small islets, Sandholmen and Raudnebben.

Further south along the route, follow the shoreline for another kilometer until you reach Buerøya, where you have access to a great sandy beach on the north side of the island. Here, you will also find a coastal cabin which is available for rent. Another kilometer south and you arrive back to your starting point at Langeby.

At Langeby you can find:

  • Public restrooms
  • Restaurants
  • Grocery stores
  • Parking
  • Camping
