About Ormestadvika to Grubesand
The route from Ormestadvika to Grubesand is a pleasant and simple trip down the eastern coast of Mefjorden with no open-water crossings. Along the route, you can observe some of the beautiful cabins located along the shores.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 117 kilometers until you reach exit 42 toward Fv 305 Sandefjord. Follow Fv305 to Fv303 through Sandefjord and follow signs to Vesterøya. Once at Vesterøya, stay on “Vesterøyveien” for 2.4 kilometers until you take a left towards Ormestadvika. You will find parking right at the small marina.
From the marina at Ormestadvika, paddle south along the western coastline of the sheltered Mefjorden. Although you mainly see cabins along the edge of the water, there are some small beaches that are perfect for taking a break and stretching your legs. Be respectful of people’s private homes when going ashore with the kayaks.
The first suitable beach for a relaxing break is located about 1.5 kilometers south of Ormestadvika on the southern tip of island Brattholmen. The next great place to stop is at Hummelvika, which lies one kilometer further south. Another 1.5 kilometers south, you will come to Båtholmen and from there it is about one kilometer further to your final destination, Grubesand.
At Grubesand, you will find a nice, large beach bordered by the forest. Don’t forget to bring swimwear to cool off on a warm day. Return to Ormestadvika on the same route you came.
