About Skjellvika to Lahellefjorden and Natholmen
With Østerøya and Sandefjord in west and Tjøme and Færder National Park in east, this paddling route offers sheltered waters in Lahellefjorden in Tønsbergfjorden.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 117 kilometers until you reach exit 42 toward Fv 305 Sandefjord. Follow Fv305 to Fv303 through Sandefjord and follow signs to Østerøya. Follow Østerøyveien for a few kilometers until turning left onto Skjellvikveien. Your destination is only a few hundred meters further.
From Skjellvika, paddle north into the strait between the mainland and the small island of Møyern. Continue a little further along the shoreline and into Lahellefjorden, past Trondskjær, Bikkjeskjæret, and around Katteskjæret, which is the furthest islet within Lahellefjorden.
From here, head southeast. On the north side of the harbor at Furuholmen, it is possible to paddle under the bridge. In the middle of Furuholmen, it is a great place to stop and stretch your legs, but if you paddle one kilometer across the bay to the southeast, there is a nice place to land at Båtstadskjæren.
Further south along the shoreline, you round Engeodden peninsula and head northeast, under the bridge leading towards Natholmen island. Here you pass a boat harbor on the northern coastline of the island and then swing south, where you will soon come to a campsite. A short kilometer further, you will pass a larger beach, then a small beach with many islets, which is a great place to stop and stretch your legs.
Furthermore, the trip goes around the southern edge of Natholmen and then northwards past Natholmskjær and between the Marøyskjær islets, which is an animal rescue area. Continue paddling west and across the fjord. Once you reach the mainland, paddle south back to Skjellvika.
Shorten the trip by paddling south from Engeodden peninsula to Marøyskjær islets and then west across the fjord to Skjellvika.
At Skjellvika you can find:
- Public restrooms
- Fresh water
- Summertime kiosk
