About Skjellvika to Flautangen
A paddle tour along a steep shoreline to Flautangen, which is a great recreational area with many possibilities for paddlers. In the beginning of the route, there are limited places to land the kayak but there are piers if needed.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 117 kilometers until you reach exit 42 toward Fv 305 Sandefjord. Follow Fv305 to Fv303 through Sandefjord and follow signs to Østerøya. Follow Østerøyveien for a few kilometers until turning left onto Skjellvikveien. Your destination is only a few hundred meters further.
The trip heads south along the island of Østerøya. After 1.5 km, you will reach two small beaches which are great to land on and stretch your legs. The area is surrounded with many cabins. Once you have crossed the bay, you can paddle through the canal between the mainland and the small islands. There are many small islets in this area but very few areas where one can land the kayak.
When you paddle around the next peninsula, you will come to a nice, south-facing bay with a sheltered beach. Here, you will find a gapahuk next to the beach and a perfect place to take a break before returning back to Skjellvika along the same route.
If you continue another 1.5 kilometers south along the coast, you will arrive at Nordre Trubervika bay, where you will see several small islands, the largest being Havneholmen and Laksholmen. If the weather is nice, paddle among the islands before heading back to Skjellvika.
At Skjellvika you can find:
- Public restrooms
- Fresh water
- Summertime kiosk
