About Veierland Loop from Bogen

Veierland must be experienced. The car free island is a summer paradise and is well worth a try, both from water and land.

The adventure is part of Padleled Vestfold and the entry point for the adventure is Bogen.

Getting there

From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 107 kilometers until you reach exit 39 for Fv 303 towards Stokke. Drive through Stokke and continue on Fv303/Kirkeveien towards Sandefjord for another 5.2 kilometers. Take a left onto Bogenveien and your destination will be about 500 meters ahead.

Trail description

The route from Bogen heads south to the northern tip of Langø island. From there, the cross over to Veierland island’s northwestern side, at Vestgården ferry port. Be aware of the "Jutøya" ferry, which departs several times a day.

The route heads north, around the northern tip, and you soon pass the peninsula, Kjølholmen. On the east side of the peninsula is the beautiful recreational area with a great beach and perfect place to pitch a tent. Further south, there are many islets and cabins along the coastline. Paddle through the charming strait, Oslebakk, with the Oslebakk island on your left side. On the south side of Veierland island, you will see beautiful, smooth islets, which can be nice to explore.

Continue around to the southwest side of the island, passing the small islets, Terneskjær and Pikeskjær, and paddle into in the bay. You will pass a long narrow peninsula, Taraldkilodden, which juts out to the south. After about 500 meters, you reach Hverveodden peninsula, another great place to take a break.

The route continues through the bay and heads north along Veierland's western coast. Here it becomes more difficult to land the kayak. The next possible location to land is at the beach near the ferry ports, Tangen pier at Båsløkka or Vestgården pier, before crossing back to the northern tip of Langø island and then returning back to Bogen.

Alternate route
On the return trip, paddle west from Veierland to Munkhallen marina, and then north along the coastline back to Bogen.
