Trail description

From the harbor, the paddling route takes you by Sandbånn and out to the Trælsodden peninsula in the southeast. Once you round the peninsula, you follow the coastline north in a well-sheltered area. The shoreline has very few buildings and is pleasant to paddle along.

One and a half kilometers north of Trælsodden, you will arrive at Brunstad's recreational area. A few kilometers further north, you will reach Rossnessodden, a well-organized recreation area with a nice beach. Here, you cross the fjord to Nøtterøy over to the swimming beach at Hella. From Hella, head south and paddle past Ørastranda Camping and further along the land past Holmskjær.

At the marina Glomstein, there is a nice beach located on the southside of the pier. The next small island is Grøtterødskjær, followed by Håøya. Paddle past the north tip of Håøya and further across the fjord to the south end of Ravnø island. Ravnø island provides many great locations to take a break and enjoy the beautiful beaches.

After Ravnø, paddle north to Gåsø island, where there is a nice recreational area, and several nice places to land the kayaks on the north and west sides of the island.

From Gåsø, cross 200 meters to Gåsøkalven in the north, which is another nice islet with a recreational area and great areas to dock the kayaks.

From Gåsøkalven, paddle west towards the shoreline and the marina at Solnes. Continue north along the shoreline and back to Melsomvik. Be aware of boat traffic in this area.

At Melsomvik you can find:

  • Public restrooms (open during the high season)
  • Fresh water
  • Parking
  • Grocery store located 1 kilometer north of the marina
